What you will do

• Direct a portfolio of biomedical AI research, including existing NIH-funded work.
• Identify funding opportunities, establish academic, industry, and government collaborations, and develop research proposals.
• Generate preliminary data and proof-of-concept results to support proposals and launch new initiatives.
• Develop and evaluate multimodal AI models integrating biomedical and clinical data such as medical imaging and electronic health records, including data preparation, architecture design, training, and evaluation.
• Provide technical leadership and manage and mentor ML engineers and data scientists.
• Publish and present research, contribute to white papers and technical reports, communicate results to federal sponsors and partners, and track advances in AI and biomedical science.

Requirements

• Advanced degree in Computer Science, AI/ML, Mathematics, Biomedical Engineering, or a related field; a PhD is strongly preferred, while an MS may be considered for exceptional candidates.
• 3+ years of hands-on ML/DL model development for biomedical data with a PhD, or 7+ years with an MS, supported by publications or comparable outputs.
• Proven experience building collaborations, writing successful proposals, and leading funded projects.
• Expertise in supervised and unsupervised methods and modern architectures such as transformers.
• Experience building multimodal models integrating biomedical data such as imaging, EHRs, wearables, and genetics.
• Experience fine-tuning and adapting foundation models and LLMs.
• Strong statistics foundation and rigorous model evaluation skills, including validation study design and uncertainty quantification.
