Backend Developers (Java/Kotlin)

Location: Fully remote contract role for people based in Poland

hirify.global develops the Justride fare collection platform, enabling passengers to buy and present public transport tickets through mobile devices, ticket machines, and contactless bank cards.

What you will do

• Build and maintain backend services and REST APIs powering core Justride features.
• Design and contribute to scalable, secure, resilient distributed systems, including service-based and event-driven architectures.
• Build and support integrations with internal services and third-party systems.
• Collaborate with engineers, testers, and product partners to deliver features from concept through production.
• Write tested, maintainable code, participate in code reviews, and contribute to shared engineering standards.
• Monitor and improve service performance, reliability, and observability while contributing to technical decisions.

Requirements

• Based in Poland and able to work in a fully remote contract arrangement.
• English required for clear written and spoken communication and explaining technical concepts to technical and non-technical colleagues.
• Solid commercial experience building backend systems in Java or Kotlin.
• Understanding of distributed systems and designing for scale and reliability.
• Experience designing and working with REST APIs and service-based or event-driven architectures.
• Hands-on experience with cloud platforms, ideally AWS.
• Thoughtful approach to code quality, testing, and maintainability.
• Collaborative, team-oriented, proactive, curious, and willing to learn and take ownership.

Nice to have

• Experience with event-driven architecture, Kafka, AWS services such as DynamoDB, S3, SQS, EC2, and ECS, and infrastructure as code.
• Experience with Terraform, Grafana, Gradle, Maven, and Git.
