Senior AI Engineer, TIFIN @Work (AI)

Location: Boulder, CO; in-office every day

Salary: $150,000–$200,000 USD annually, plus meaningful equity and benefits eligibility.

What you will do

• Own the architecture of production multi-agent workflows, including orchestration, tool calls, streaming, human handoffs, checkpointing, and reliable recovery.
• Build evaluation infrastructure with adversarial test sets, execution-trace scoring, calibrated LLM judges, CI regression gates, production monitoring, and quality reporting.
• Develop grounded retrieval systems for financial and benefits documents using hybrid search, reranking, chunking, citations, and evidence trails.
• Build personalized agent context and permission layers while improving security, latency, cost, validation, prompt caching, and model routing.
• Work autonomously with product and client-facing teams, participate in design reviews, and review teammates’ designs and merge requests.

Requirements

• Experience shipping agentic AI systems to real users, with practical knowledge of orchestration, state, checkpointing, streaming, and LangGraph or a similar framework.
• Experience building evaluation systems with benchmarks, golden datasets, execution-trace scoring, calibrated LLM-as-a-judge systems, human labels, offline and online evaluations, and A/B tests.
• Experience using tracing and observability tools such as LangSmith, Phoenix, or Langfuse to connect production outcomes with development.
• Machine learning depth including fine-tuning or distilling small language models for classification, routing, or extraction using LoRA, QLoRA, and quantization.
• Experience serving models with inference stacks such as vLLM, TGI, or SGLang and balancing accuracy, latency, and cost.
• Experience building production RAG systems with chunking, hybrid search, reranking, vector stores, grounding, and citations.
• Experience making tool calls and structured outputs reliable with Pydantic or JSON Schema, and protecting PII before data reaches an external model.
• Strong Python skills and comfort with FastAPI or Django, React, TypeScript, data infrastructure, and cloud systems.
• Experience working with multiple model providers and making trade-offs across quality, speed, cost, and reliability; strong written communication and design-review skills.

Nice to have

• Experience with fine-tuning and serving open-weight models, MCP and tool-protocol design, and generative UI.
• Experience using AI-native development tools such as Claude Code, Cursor, or Codex.
