Senior Software Engineer - Data Infrastructure

Location: Remote in Colombia, Costa Rica, or Mexico

What you will do

• Design and build automation frameworks for provisioning, configuring, and repairing fleet infrastructure.
• Extend observability across metrics, logs, traces, and alerts to monitor storage-platform health and degradation.
• Build reporting, dashboards, visualizations, and system-health tooling for fleet health, capacity, configuration drift, and hardware failures.
• Lead technical design discussions and document changes spanning multiple services and teams.
• Drive large features from design through rollout, including migrations and backfills.
• Partner with on-call engineers to convert recurring toil and incident findings into automation and better operational signals.

Requirements

• 7+ years of backend development in an enterprise environment using an object-oriented or systems language such as Java, Rust, C++, C#, Go, or similar.
• Experience designing automation frameworks or platforms that other engineers build on and depend on daily.
• Experience building large-scale software systems running on thousands of servers.
• Working knowledge of an observability stack such as Prometheus, Grafana, OpenTelemetry, ELK, Datadog, or equivalent, including service instrumentation and trusted alert design.
• Strong Linux fundamentals and experience operating in bare-metal or hybrid environments rather than fully managed cloud environments.
• Professional experience using AI-assisted development tools such as Gemini, Cursor, Claude Code, or similar.
• Comfort with the full software development lifecycle, including design, implementation, testing, and rollout.
• Curiosity, proactive communication in a remote environment, early escalation of blockers, and analytical thinking for ambiguous problems.

Nice to have

• Proficiency in Java.
• Experience with configuration management or infrastructure-as-code tools such as Ansible, Salt, Puppet, Chef, or Terraform.
• Experience designing SLOs and error budgets or reducing alert noise on large-scale fleets.
• Experience with time-series databases and query languages such as PromQL.
• Experience automating hardware lifecycle operations, including burn-in, failure detection, drive replacement, and decommissioning.
• Experience improving CPU and I/O performance, understanding Linux internals and file systems, and optimizing hard-drive performance including host-managed SMR.
• Experience building and interpreting models, dashboards, or reports.
