Software Engineer – OpenConnect (OC) (Node.js/TypeScript)

Location: Bogota, Colombia; hybrid with 2 days in the office per week

What you will do

• Design, develop, test, and maintain Node.js and TypeScript backend services, microservices, REST APIs, and airline integrations.
• Build integration components and adapters connecting the OpenConnect platform with airline systems and external providers using JSON, XML, and related messaging formats.
• Modernize legacy OpenConnect components by migrating functionality to scalable, cloud-native microservices.
• Develop and deploy applications using AWS, Kubernetes/EKS, and Docker.
• Implement error handling, retries, logging, tracing, monitoring, and automated unit and integration tests to improve service resilience and observability.
• Participate in code reviews, architecture discussions, troubleshooting, production support, documentation, and collaboration with Product, QA, Architecture, DevOps, and engineering teams.

Requirements

• Proven software development experience with TypeScript and Node.js.
• Experience designing, developing, and maintaining backend services, REST APIs, and microservices.
• Strong understanding of asynchronous programming, distributed systems, and API design principles.
• Experience with JSON and XML payloads and complex integrations across multiple internal and external systems.
• Experience developing and deploying cloud-based applications on AWS, plus hands-on experience with Docker and Kubernetes or similar orchestration technologies.
• Understanding of API authentication, error handling, resiliency, logging, monitoring, and observability.
• Experience implementing automated unit and integration tests, with familiarity with Git-based workflows and CI/CD pipelines.
• Strong analytical, debugging, and problem-solving skills, including troubleshooting complex technical issues and collaborating across functions.
• Fluent English is required; interviews will be held in English.

Nice to have

• Experience in airline distribution, reservation systems, or travel technology.
• Knowledge of IATA NDC APIs, airline Offer and Order Management, EDIFACT or TTY messaging, and integrations with airline Passenger Service Systems.
• Familiarity with airline shopping, availability, pricing, booking, ticketing, servicing, payment, and settlement workflows.
• Experience with AWS EKS, Lambda, DynamoDB, OpenTelemetry, Sumo Logic, or OpenSearch.
• Experience modernizing legacy applications and migrating functionality to cloud-native microservices.
• Familiarity with C/C++ for working with or migrating legacy OpenConnect components.
• Exposure to Jenkins, GitLab pipelines, JFrog, and other CI/CD engineering tools.
