TL;DR
Staff Materials Engineer (Organics) (Aerospace/Materials Science): Qualifying organic materials, parts, and processes for satellite buses with an accent on aerospace non-metallics, supplier qualification, material testing, and flight-hardware readiness. Focus on developing approved materials databases, analyzing failures and non-conformances, coordinating test campaigns, and supporting scalable spacecraft manufacturing.
Location: Los Angeles, CA, USA; in-person collaboration at the Playa Vista office.
Company
hirify.global is a fast-growing aerospace startup that manufactures satellite buses at scale using software, vertical integration, and manufacturing-oriented hardware.
What you will do
Own qualification of organic materials, parts, and processes for space and factory environments, including testing, process controls, supplier audits, and qualification activities.
Develop and maintain the Approved Materials and Processes List with approved suppliers, formulations, revisions, application limits, shelf life, storage conditions, and qualification status.
Define and support requirements for materials, parts, processes, manufacturing technologies, machinery, tools, and automation systems.
Analyze material, tool, part, and process performance and failures; recommend corrective actions and support non-conformance and supplier-deviation investigations.
Coordinate laboratory activities, test campaigns, data compilation, specifications, work instructions, test plans, engineering records, configuration control, and design reviews.
Communicate technical findings across engineering, production, suppliers, and other stakeholders while managing cost, technical, and schedule requirements.
Requirements
U.S. Persons status is required, or the candidate must be able to obtain applicable U.S. export authorizations, because the role provides access to export-controlled data.
Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, materials science, physics, aerospace engineering, or a relevant engineering discipline.
10+ years of industry experience demonstrating a strong foundation in materials science and engineering principles.
Engineering experience qualifying aerospace non-metallics, including adhesives, epoxies, potting and staking compounds, conformal coatings, RTV/silicones, elastomers, plastics, thermal interface materials, thermal working fluids, thermal-control paints and coatings, lubricants, composites, films and tapes, and insulation materials.
Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
Ability to manage multiple concurrent projects in a fast-paced environment.
Nice to have
Master’s degree in materials science, chemical engineering, metallurgy, polymers, mechanical engineering, or a related discipline.
Experience with materials in aerospace, defense, or high-reliability manufacturing development lifecycles.
Deep understanding of adhesives and thermal materials.
Familiarity with wire bonding, heat treatment, surface modification, thermal coatings, and interface-material manufacturing processes.
Knowledge of fracture mechanics, fluid compatibility, statistics, and failure analysis.
Culture & Benefits
Full-time employment with equity, company-paid medical, dental, and vision coverage, life insurance, and a 401(k) matching plan.
Paid time off starting at 15 vacation days, 10 paid holidays, and 8 weeks of paid parental leave.
Childcare reimbursement of up to $350 per day for work-related travel.
Daily catered lunch, unlimited snacks, productivity equipment, and office community activities.
