Senior Engineer (Ingestion)

Location: London, GB; Remote. Remote or hybrid working is available, and candidates must be located in European timezones with core overlap with UK business hours.

hirify.global builds an enterprise community intelligence platform that ingests data from Discord, Reddit, and other community platforms to provide analytics, engagement insights, commercial intelligence, and AI tools for gaming companies and global brands.

What you will do

• Own end-to-end data collection, processing, and storage across platform integrations.
• Design event-driven flows, queues, retries, failure recovery, ordering, idempotency, and dead-letter handling.
• Build pipelines handling millions of messages, focusing on throughput, latency, deduplication, backfills, schema design, and data-store performance.
• Develop pipeline observability, monitor data freshness, and maintain strict data quality standards.
• Identify bottlenecks with product and AI teams and deliver incremental updates in ambiguous problem spaces.
• Add new integrations for Discord, Reddit, Steam, X, and customer-owned sources while making integrations faster and cheaper to build.

Requirements

• Senior-level backend engineering experience with significant focus on data pipelines and infrastructure.
• Direct ownership of high-volume production data pipelines, including the ability to explain throughput, load patterns, performance bottlenecks, and structural optimisations.
• Production experience with messaging queues, pub/sub, or streams, including ordering, idempotency, retries, and dead-letter handling.
• Proficiency with TypeScript and Node.js across backend services and database stores.
• Strong data-store skills at scale, including schema design, query optimisation, indexing, and partitioning; ClickHouse experience is preferred within the stated stack.
• Hands-on experience with ingestion edge cases such as rate limits, schema drift, backfills, and partial failures.
• Ability to operate independently in ambiguity, establish technical clarity, address risks, communicate trade-offs, and take accountability for operational health.
• Clear communication through concise pull requests, technical documentation, and asynchronous updates.
• Preference for incremental delivery based on real-world usage rather than lengthy isolated development cycles.
• AI-native engineering practice, including daily use of coding agents and understanding where they help and where they introduce risks.

Nice to have

• Experience with GCP Pub/Sub, Kafka, or equivalent event-streaming technologies.
• Familiarity with Temporal or other durable execution frameworks.
• Experience with third-party platform APIs, rate limits, and dynamic payloads.
• Experience managing Discord, Reddit, or social media datasets.
• Exposure to ingested data feeding downstream AI or search systems.
• Background in high-growth startup environments and fast-paced technical decision-making.
• Experience migrating live systems to event-driven architectures without service interruption.
• Impactful technical writing, open-source projects, or engineering documentation.

Hiring process

• Screening call with the Talent Partner, followed by an introductory conversation with the Engineering Manager.
• Complete a 90-minute asynchronous build task in your own time, followed by a 60-minute technical discussion with two engineers about the task and experience.
• Meet with the CTO for 60 minutes and the Head of People for 30 minutes; the process aims to finish within two weeks with feedback after each stage.
