Senior Field Engineer, Data Center Design and Engineering

Location: Remote-Friendly, United States; more than 50% of working time at active project sites, often with overnight travel across multiple sites. The remainder is remote from a home base, and staff are expected to be in an office at least 25% of the time.

Annual salary: $320,000–$405,000 USD.

What you will do

• Represent the engineering team on active data center sites and assess installed work against approved designs.
• Coordinate with developers, general contractors, engineers of record, vendors, and commissioning teams; hold design acceptance on the team’s behalf.
• Maintain prioritized engineering issue lists, assign owners and dates, follow up, challenge delays, and escalate with recommendations.
• Investigate equipment, installation, and test failures, identify root causes, verify corrective actions, and assess risks across other sites.
• Drive RFIs, deviations, and field changes to decisions while checking interfaces between power, cooling, controls, and structure.
• Convert recurring site problems into improvements to designs, standards, and audit checklists.

Requirements

• Years of experience on active project sites in energy, power, heavy industrial, data center, or similar environments as an engineer, project manager, construction lead, or commissioning lead.
• Ability to read drawings, single-line diagrams, P&IDs, specifications, and schedules and identify discrepancies with installed work.
• Specific experience persuading contractors, vendors, or partners without formal reporting authority to change course.
• Ability to make evidence-based decisions under pressure, deliver bad news early, and revise conclusions when facts change.
• Experience leading structured failure investigations, such as 5 Whys or 8D, through corrective action completion.
• Ability to write concise, factual reports and personal commitment to safety, including stopping unsafe work.
• Bachelor’s degree in engineering, construction management, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience; the required field must be relevant through coursework, training, or professional experience.

Nice to have

• Owner’s representative experience overseeing an EPC or general contractor.
• Commissioning, startup, or system turnover experience.
• Experience in LNG, refining, offshore, power generation, semiconductor, or naval environments.
• Electrical, mechanical, or civil, structural, and architectural engineering background.
• PE license, PMP, or OSHA 30 certification.
• Familiarity with Procore or Primavera P6.
