AI Engineer (Generative AI)

Location: Hybrid, with onsite and remote work in Atlanta, Georgia, or the Washington, DC / Maryland / Virginia area. Must be a U.S. Citizen or Lawful Permanent Resident.

Salary: $155,000.00

What you will do

• Build and enhance production generative AI applications, web-based AI solutions, RAG systems, knowledge assistants, chatbots, and agentic workflows.
• Develop AI applications with Azure AI Foundry, Azure OpenAI, and Foundry Agent Service.
• Implement LLM and agent workflows using tools, structured outputs, guardrails, human review, and MCP-based integrations.
• Integrate applications with APIs, enterprise data sources, databases, cloud services, and external tools.
• Develop secure cloud-native services and user interfaces with Python, web frameworks, containers, and Azure services.
• Test, evaluate, and monitor AI applications while collaborating with software, AI, architecture, and DevSecOps teams.

Requirements

• 5+ years of hands-on technical experience in software engineering, web application development, data engineering, data science, machine learning, or a related discipline.
• 1+ year of hands-on experience building generative AI or agentic AI solutions, including LLM APIs, prompt engineering, tool or function calling, structured outputs, RAG, or agents.
• Experience with Python, APIs, backend services, data pipelines, and web application frameworks.
• Experience with REST APIs, JSON interfaces, authentication mechanisms, and external service integrations.
• Experience with at least one major cloud platform, such as Microsoft Azure or AWS, including deployment or integration with cloud-hosted services.
• Experience using Git, GitHub, Jira, pull requests, code reviews, issue tracking, and Agile/Scrum practices.
• Knowledge of LLM fundamentals, including tokens, context windows, prompts, model parameters, structured outputs, embeddings, retrieval, and response evaluation.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust or suitability determination when required.
• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, or a related field.
• U.S. citizenship or lawful permanent residence is required.

Nice to have

• Containerized or cloud-native development with Docker, Azure Container Apps, Azure App Service, or similar services.
• MCP integrations, agent tool calling, and multi-agent systems.
• LLM evaluation, tracing, monitoring, observability, CI/CD, automated testing, and cloud-based deployment practices.
• Experience in government, healthcare, or other regulated environments.
• Fine-tuning, hosting, or serving open-source LLMs and familiarity with model-serving frameworks.
• AI governance, responsible AI, security, risk management, and agent frameworks such as Microsoft Agent Framework, LangGraph, or PydanticAI.
• Cross-functional collaboration and communication of technical decisions and trade-offs to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
