TL;DR
Senior Mechanical Project Engineer (Data Center Cooling & HVAC): Ensuring hydronic, HVAC, and high-density liquid-cooling systems are installed, commissioned, and operated according to design intent at active construction sites with an accent on field engineering, construction coordination, and system performance. Focus on resolving complex mechanical issues, validating direct-to-chip cooling and conventional HVAC installations, and supporting startup, testing, TAB, and commissioning across multiple project sites.
Location: United States; on-site and field-based, with significant presence at active construction sites and travel between multiple project sites as required.
Company
hirify.global is hiring for engineering work supporting data center cooling, hydronic systems, commercial HVAC, construction, startup, and commissioning.
What you will do
Represent the Design Engineering team on site throughout construction, startup, and commissioning while maintaining alignment with design intent, criteria, sequences of operation, and equipment requirements.
Provide technical oversight for hydronic cooling, pumps, heat exchangers, piping, valves, water treatment, data center cooling, direct-to-chip liquid cooling, CDUs, and secondary cooling loops.
Support HVAC systems for offices, administrative areas, warehouses, restrooms, electrical rooms, and other support spaces, including AHUs, VAV systems, ventilation, ductwork, heating, terminal equipment, and controls.
Review installations, field changes, submittals, shop drawings, RFIs, coordination drawings, and non-conformance issues; resolve constructability, coordination, access, clearance, and serviceability problems.
Coordinate with design engineers, construction managers, contractors, vendors, commissioning agents, controls contractors, and operations teams to troubleshoot issues and close deficiencies.
Support startup, flushing, balancing, functional performance testing, commissioning, TAB, turnover, and continuous improvement of future designs, standards, and construction practices.
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
7+ years of relevant mechanical engineering experience, including significant experience designing, constructing, or commissioning hydronic and HVAC systems.
Strong knowledge of hydronic design, pipe sizing and hydraulic calculations, pump selection and system curves, heat exchangers, control valves, balancing, HVAC load calculations, equipment sizing, duct sizing, air distribution, ventilation, outside-air requirements, piping materials, and mechanical controls and sequences of operation.
Experience reviewing mechanical construction drawings, specifications, submittals, shop drawings, RFIs, and field installations, with the ability to troubleshoot complex mechanical and HVAC systems.
Ability to interpret design intent and make sound engineering judgments when field conditions differ from the original design.
Strong communication skills and ability to work with engineers, contractors, trades, vendors, commissioning teams, and project leadership.
Ability to work independently as the senior engineering representative at a construction site and maintain a full-time presence at active construction sites.
Willingness and ability to travel and temporarily support multiple project sites.
Experience with data centers, mission-critical facilities, industrial facilities, or other high-availability environments.
Experience with both commercial HVAC design and high-density data center cooling or liquid-cooling technologies.
Experience or familiarity with direct-to-chip liquid cooling, CDUs, TCS, FWS, secondary cooling loops, water quality and coolant chemistry, redundant and concurrently maintainable cooling architectures, ASHRAE ventilation and thermal-comfort requirements, and commercial HVAC equipment and controls.
Experience with mechanical commissioning, TAB, functional performance testing, building automation systems, and mechanical controls.
Nice to have
Familiarity with BIM and model coordination tools such as Revit, Navisworks, or similar platforms.
Professional Engineer (PE) license or progress toward licensure.
Experience in fast-paced design-build or construction environments.
Culture & Benefits
Full-time, field-based engineering role with substantial on-site work at active construction projects.
Regular collaboration across engineering, construction, commissioning, vendor, and operations functions.
Travel and temporary support for multiple project sites based on business needs.
