2027 Future Talent Program - Device Development & Technology - Device Technical Operations - Co-op (Medical Devices)

Location: Wilson, North Carolina, United States; onsite co-op at the Wilson site for up to six months. Available to US and Puerto Rico residents only. No relocation; no travel required.

Salary: $39,908–$111,111 per year.

What you will do

• Work on one or more research projects focused on device and combination product production and processing development technology.
• Participate in departmental and project team meetings across the drug development process.
• Develop proof-of-concept and working prototypes and conduct functional testing.
• Perform mechanical testing, imaging, measurement, analytical characterization, and interpretation of results.
• Present research results in oral and written formats while working under the mentorship of an experienced pharmaceutical industry scientist.

Requirements

• Be enrolled in a college or institution and pursue a degree in Plastics Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Material Science, Chemical Engineering, Industrial Design, or an equivalent field; B.S. and M.S. candidates are strongly preferred.
• Be available for a full-time co-op of up to six months at the Wilson, North Carolina site.
• Have solid medical device and/or combination product testing knowledge and a strong understanding of basic engineering skills and scientific principles.
• Have fundamental analytical characterization skills, including test method development, data analysis, and result interpretation.
• Have experience with mechanical testing, imaging, and measurement equipment and techniques, including tensile/compression testing, surface characterization, material testing, X-ray computed tomography, rheometry, and microscopy.
• Have excellent collaboration, ideation, prototyping, communication, and multidisciplinary teamwork skills.
• Have experience with 3D CAD modeling and 2D drawing creation, such as SolidWorks or AutoCAD.
• Understand geometric dimensioning and tolerancing and stack-up analysis.
• Have a basic understanding of plastics processing, manufacturing processes, and automation equipment, including injection molding, extrusion, and blow molding.
• Demonstrate fluency in finite element analysis and computational fluid dynamics.

Nice to have

• Knowledge of medical devices, pharmaceuticals, healthcare, or a similar regulated industry.
