Senior Search & AI Discoverability Engineer (AI)

Location: Mountain View, California / Remote within the continental United States, Hawaii, or Canada.

Salary: $85/hour USD; 12-month full-time contract, benefits eligible. Overtime is not anticipated and requires advance approval.

What you will do

• Research and implement GEO, AEO, and AIO strategies across content, metadata, and page structure for Google AI Overviews, Perplexity, ChatGPT, and other LLM-powered surfaces.
• Conduct technical audits and translate findings into clearly scoped engineering projects with measurable impact.
• Build business cases for product enhancements using audience knowledge across learners, teachers, and district administrators.
• Instrument and monitor discoverability metrics across Google Search Console, organic traffic, and emerging AI surfaces.
• Partner with Marketing, engineers, product teams, and leaders to prioritize and deliver SEO initiatives.
• Track how LLMs retrieve and cite web content and bring new techniques to the team.

Requirements

• 5+ years of hands-on technical SEO experience, including direct implementation rather than recommendations only.
• Ability to own implementation end-to-end by reading, writing, and shipping code; Go and React are preferred for delivering SEO, GEO, AEO, and AIO improvements.
• Ability to work independently and collaborate with engineers, cross-functional teams, and leaders to scope, drive, and deliver SEO initiatives.
• Working knowledge of how AI-powered search and answer engines retrieve, rank, and cite content, including GEO/AEO/AIO fundamentals.
• Proficiency with Google Search Console, Google Analytics, Semrush, Ahrefs, and other analytics tools for creating actionable insights.
• Cross-cultural competency, including self-awareness, awareness of others, and the ability to adopt inclusive perspectives and behaviors.

Nice to have

• Experience with a content-heavy or edtech platform with high page counts and structured content types.
• International SEO experience.
• Experience using Generative AI or LLMs to build products.
