R&D Synthetic Analytical Chemist (Semiconductor Materials)

Location: 100% onsite at the Marlborough, Massachusetts facility, United States; domestic and international travel of up to 10% required.

What you will do

• Design and synthesize polymers, monomers, oligomers, and functional materials for advanced semiconductor circuit and packaging applications.
• Develop material platforms using polymer chemistry, organic synthesis, and structure-property-performance principles, with a focus on electrochemical properties.
• Characterize materials using advanced analytical techniques and apply data-driven decision-making to accelerate product development.
• Lead and support projects from concept through commercialization, including early scale-up, process safety, intellectual property generation, and Stage-Gate execution.
• Evaluate scientific literature, patent landscapes, and competitive technologies to identify innovation opportunities and guide technical strategy.
• Collaborate with R&D, Scale-up Engineering, Product Management, Quality, and Supply Chain teams; mentor junior scientists and engineers and present technical findings.

Requirements

• Ph.D. in Synthetic Chemistry, Polymer Chemistry, or a related discipline.
• Strong understanding of structure-property relationships and scale-up strategies for polymers, monomers, and specialty chemicals.
• Strong experimental design, problem-solving, and data-analysis skills.
• Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills.
• Ability to collaborate effectively across global teams and time zones.
• Ability to travel domestically and internationally up to 10%.

Nice to have

• Experience developing materials for semiconductor packaging, advanced electronics, or microelectronics applications.
• Hands-on experience with electroplating and plating-bath formulation.
• Knowledge of semiconductor-grade contamination control, analytical cleanliness standards, and quality systems.
• Experience with Design of Experiments using JMP, Minitab, or similar statistical software.
• Experience with materials and chemical computational modeling and predictive data analytics.
• Familiarity with air-sensitive, moisture-sensitive, or controlled-atmosphere synthetic techniques.
• Previous mentoring or technical leadership experience in a cross-functional R&D environment.
