Compliance Testing Advisor - Institutional Services and Wealth Management (ISWM) - Hybrid

Location: Hybrid, requiring in-office work four days per week and one remote day. Based at an M&T Bank corporate office in Buffalo, NY, Wilmington, DE, Iselin, NJ, or New York, NY.

Salary: $89,600.00–$149,300.00 annual USD.

What you will do

• Manage, lead, and execute risk-based compliance testing engagements across Institutional Services, Wealth Management, and institutional broker-dealer activities.
• Plan and oversee multiple simultaneous testing engagements, monitor deadlines, and escalate anticipated delays.
• Obtain information from business units and compliance stakeholders, assess processes and controls, and document test scripts and findings.
• Communicate substantive findings and control weaknesses, validate issues with compliance officers, and recommend issue ratings.
• Review team work papers and provide coaching, mentoring, and feedback while serving as a knowledge resource.
• Support Archer administration, integrated testing approaches, special projects, and regulatory and audit initiatives.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in a related field plus 6 years of experience in compliance, legal, audit, risk, or another relevant function; or, in lieu of a degree, at least 10 combined years of higher education and/or work experience, including 6 years in a relevant function.
• Demonstrated coaching or leadership experience.
• Ability to read and understand applicable laws, regulations, and common law.
• Ability to exercise independent judgment, sound discretion, and recognize when Corporate Compliance Management guidance is needed.
• Strong, comprehensive understanding of financial services functions and regulatory subject-matter expertise related to the portfolio.
• Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication, organizational, and analytical skills.
• Ability to work effectively in a collaborative, team-oriented environment.
• Strong proficiency with spreadsheet, presentation, and word-processing software.

Nice to have

• Institutional Services and Wealth Management experience, especially compliance experience in these areas.
• Experience building compliance or audit test scripts.
• Related certification such as CPA, CIA, CISA, CAMS, CRCM, or similar.
• MBA or master’s degree in an appropriate field.
