Principal Machine Learning Engineer, Business Process Optimization

Location: Pleasanton, California, United States; Flex Work requires at least 50% of each quarter in the office or in the field with customers, prospects, and partners.

Annual base salary: $228,000–$342,000 for the primary location; $190,600–$342,000 for additional US locations. The role may also include bonus or commission and annual refresh stock grants.

What you will do

• Lead the architecture and implementation of next-generation AI platforms and autonomous agent frameworks.
• Design agentic capabilities including tool calling, multi-agent workflows, long-range planning, reasoning frameworks, and human-in-the-loop integrations.
• Build secure, high-throughput REST services, event-driven data pipelines, multi-tenant runtimes, and low-latency inference infrastructure.
• Establish MLOps standards covering CI/CD, observability, evaluation, model monitoring, privacy, and anonymization guardrails.
• Develop high-availability usage pipelines and distributed systems supporting enterprise decision-making, usage tracking, and billing integrity across international product regions.
• Partner with software engineering, product, data engineering, SRE, and legal/compliance stakeholders on scalable designs and data-governance strategies.

Requirements

• 12+ years in ML development and R&D leadership, including 8+ years with advanced ML methodologies, distributed frameworks, and cloud-based platforms.
• 6+ years building and hosting scalable ML services, microservices, and high-throughput production data pipelines using Java, Go, Scala, or Python.
• 4+ years working with LLMs, generative AI, RAG pipelines, and autonomous agent frameworks for enterprise applications.
• Expertise in Kafka streaming, Spark or Flink real-time feature extraction, and distributed columnar storage including ClickHouse or Iceberg.
• Deep knowledge of deep learning, LLM orchestration, RAG, agentic systems, model-based design, MCP integrations, tool-use frameworks, intent classification, and workflow optimization.
• Experience with multi-tenant workflow analysis, data strategy, high-dimensional embeddings, vector databases, and data isolation.
• Experience leading model building, fine-tuning, and deployment of domain-specific foundation models, including Kubernetes/Docker deployment, automated CI/CD retraining, and drift and latency management.
• Mastery of Python and the ML ecosystem, including PyTorch, TensorFlow, LangChain, LangSmith, LlamaIndex, NumPy, Pandas, and Scikit-learn; strong experience with PostgreSQL, Redis, Kafka, and AWS, GCP, or Azure.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience; strong collaboration, mentoring, technical leadership, sprint-planning, and executive communication skills.

• Master’s degree or PhD in a relevant field.
