Principal Machine Learning Software Engineer (AI)

Location: Pleasanton, California, United States; Flex Work with at least 50% of each quarter spent in the office or field.

Annual base salary: $228,000–$342,000 USD for the primary location; additional US locations: $190,600–$342,000 USD.

What you will do

• Lead the architecture and implementation of next-generation AI platforms and autonomous agent frameworks for Admin Central.
• Design agentic capabilities including tool calling, multi-agent workflows, long-range planning, reasoning frameworks, and human-in-the-loop integrations.
• Build secure, high-throughput REST services, event-driven data pipelines, multi-tenant runtimes, and low-latency inference infrastructure using Python, AWS, and cloud-native technologies.
• Establish MLOps standards covering CI/CD, observability, evaluation, model monitoring, privacy, anonymization, explainability, and production resilience.
• Partner with Software Engineering, Product Management, Data Engineering, SRE, and Legal/Compliance stakeholders on scalable designs and data-governance strategies.

Requirements

• 12+ years of ML development and R&D leadership, including 8+ years with advanced ML methodologies, distributed frameworks, and cloud platforms.
• 6+ years building and hosting scalable ML services, microservices, and high-throughput production data pipelines using Java, Go, Scala, or Python.
• 4+ years working with LLMs, generative AI, RAG pipelines, and autonomous agent frameworks for enterprise applications.
• Expertise in Kafka streaming, Spark or Flink feature extraction, and ClickHouse or Iceberg distributed columnar storage.
• Deep knowledge of deep learning, LLM orchestration, RAG, agentic systems, Model-Based Design, MCP integrations, tool-use frameworks, multi-agent coordination, intent classification, and workflow optimization.
• Experience leading exploratory data analysis on multi-tenant agentic workflows, defining data strategy, and managing high-dimensional embeddings, vector databases, and data isolation.
• Experience leading model building, fine-tuning, and deployment of domain-specific foundation models, including Kubernetes/Docker deployment, automated CI/CD retraining, and drift and latency management.
• Mastery of Python and the ML ecosystem, including PyTorch, TensorFlow, LangChain, LangSmith, LlamaIndex, NumPy, Pandas, and Scikit-learn; strong production experience with PostgreSQL, Redis, Kafka, and AWS, GCP, or Azure.
• Exceptional collaboration and mentoring skills, including technical leadership of cross-functional pods, sprint planning, and communicating technical and governance decisions to executives.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience.

• Master’s degree or PhD in a relevant field.
