Staff Avionics Engineer (C&DH)

Location: Tukwila, WA, with a hybrid on-site schedule and significant flexibility for part-time remote work; U.S. citizenship, lawful permanent residence, protected individual status, or eligibility to obtain required U.S. Department of State authorizations is required for ITAR-controlled technology.

Salary: $165,000–$180,000 per year for candidates in the Great Seattle Area, WA; compensation may vary by state or location.

What you will do

• Lead and support Systems Engineering deliverables across spacecraft design, integration, verification, testing, and operations.
• Decompose mission CONOPS into avionics subsystem and component requirements.
• Build tools for space-vehicle technical budgets, analysis products, and verification-data analysis.
• Develop system, subsystem, and component verification and test plans.
• Communicate analysis results, findings, and trade studies to engineering, program management, and customers.
• Coordinate with software developers, Integrated Product Teams, component suppliers, and supply-chain stakeholders as a compute-systems subject matter expert.

Requirements

• Bachelor of Science in Engineering; Computer Science, Aerospace, Systems, or Electrical Engineering is preferred.
• At least 10 years of experience in the Aerospace or Defense Industry, including at least 2 years developing hardware and software systems.
• Strong foundation in compute hardware and subsystem development lifecycles, spacecraft behavior, and subsystem dependencies.
• Ability to produce satellite compute-system budgets covering compute overhead, data throughput, data storage, and related measures.
• Proficiency with requirements-management practices and Systems Engineering artifacts such as Interface Control Documents, internal block diagrams, activity diagrams, sequence diagrams, and state machines.
• Experience coordinating with supply chain as a technical point of contact for hardware suppliers.
• Strong ownership, urgency, and focus on eliminating waste and inefficiency.

Nice to have

• Technical depth in high-speed digital communications and compute systems.
• Experience developing and troubleshooting 10G and 25G Ethernet, PCIe, and other SerDes hardware interfaces.
• Experience with Jama, DOORS, Jira, Confluence, GitHub, or similar tools.
• Understanding of spacecraft avionics, the space environment, basic astrodynamics, and spacecraft design considerations.
• Experience with Scaled Agile or a comparable Agile framework.
