Systems Lead (Avionics)

Location: Sunnyvale, California, United States; hybrid work with up to 10% travel. U.S. citizenship is required to obtain a U.S. Department of Defense security clearance.

Salary: $163,700–$225,000 per year; bonus eligible.

What you will do

• Lead software and hardware lifecycle plans for deterministic, safety-critical embedded systems used in military aviation.
• Architect and verify product development lifecycle data from customer specifications through internal design and qualification.
• Define verification strategies and high-reliability testing infrastructure while leading and mentoring the systems verification engineering team.
• Act as the primary technical authority for program management, customer field integrations, and multidisciplinary engineering teams.
• Guide product requirements, qualification, and certification strategy under DO-178C and DO-254 standards.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in engineering, computer science, or a related technical discipline.
• 10+ years of professional engineering experience in safety-critical applications such as avionics, aerospace, or medical equipment.
• Demonstrated cross-functional technical leadership and program execution under schedule and resource constraints.
• Proactive, collaborative approach with excellent communication skills.
• U.S. citizenship and ability to obtain a U.S. Department of Defense security clearance.

Nice to have

• Expertise in requirements decomposition, flow-down, and traceability across hardware and software systems.
• Experience authoring lifecycle artifacts and managing them in DOORS, Jama, or Git.
• Working knowledge of RF, software, and interface design for multi-circuit-card assemblies.
• Experience mentoring, coaching, or managing engineering teams.
