Overwatch Intern - Research - Summer 2027 (Cybersecurity)

Location: Hybrid in Austin, TX or Arlington, VA; interns must work from the office two or three days per week and be within travel distance. The internship requires 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday, during standard business hours.

What you will do

• Research and develop technologies supporting cybersecurity threat hunting.
• Support a machine-learning project focused on improving threat-hunting capabilities.
• Contribute to ongoing Strategic Counter-Adversary Research and development projects.
• Shadow team members to gain exposure to threat-hunting methodologies.

Requirements

• Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree and graduating in 2028.
• Demonstrated passion for cybersecurity through a relevant major, coursework, or extracurricular activities such as capture-the-flag competitions or cybersecurity clubs.
• Programming experience is required; Python, Go, or Java are key languages. Data-analysis languages such as R may be considered case by case.
• Ability to quickly learn technical concepts in operating systems, networking, and cloud technologies.
• Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team, with a strong work ethic and minimal supervision.
• Interest in pursuing a career in cybersecurity or security engineering and willingness to build, improve, and innovate technical solutions.
• Proven experience using AI technologies to enhance decision-making, streamline workflows and processes, improve efficiency, and drive business outcomes.

Nice to have

• Data analysis or machine-learning experience, including machine learning applied to security.
• Experience with security analytics platforms or SIEM technologies, automation frameworks, or orchestration tools.
• Familiarity with attack frameworks such as MITRE ATT&CK and cloud security concepts.
• Command-line experience with Windows, Linux, or macOS.
• Experience with data analysis and visualization, front-end or back-end development, or large-scale log analysis using tools such as Splunk or ELK.
• Awareness of current vulnerabilities and breaches and an investigative mindset.
