Senior Java Spring Developer

Location: Fully remote, with candidates required to live in Portugal or be legally qualified to live and work there; locations listed are Coimbra and Lisbon.

Salary: €35,310–€54,400 gross per year.

What you will do

• Develop and improve backend services and digital products using Java and the Spring ecosystem.
• Build REST and gRPC services using reactive patterns and distributed-systems practices.
• Write efficient, testable code and handle complex debugging, refactoring, and problem-solving.
• Work with PostgreSQL, Redis, Terraform, GitLab CI, Docker, and Kubernetes.
• Use monitoring and observability tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, and Jaeger to maintain system health.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams across projects and industries.

Requirements

• 5+ years of professional experience in backend development with Java.
• Deep expertise in the Spring ecosystem, including Spring Boot and REST/gRPC.
• Experience with reactive patterns and JVM internals, including memory barriers, JIT compilation, and heap management.
• Proficiency with PostgreSQL, Redis caching layers, Terraform, GitLab CI, Docker, and Kubernetes.
• Experience with distributed systems and monitoring tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, and Jaeger.
• Ability to write well-designed, testable, and efficient code using sound software development practices.
• Outstanding proficiency with agentic AI tools such as Cursor IDE and GitHub Copilot for code development, refactoring, and complex debugging.
• Fluency in spoken and written English.
• Must live in Portugal or be legally qualified to live and work there.
