Lead Data Scientist (AI)

Location: Onsite in Norfolk, Virginia, United States. All applicants must currently reside in the United States.

Salary: USD $95,553–$190,000 per year.

What you will do

• Design, develop, and implement predictive, prescriptive, and descriptive models using massive datasets.
• Apply mathematics, machine learning, statistical methods, and engineering approaches to solve complex analytical problems.
• Explore, mine, analyze, and manipulate structured, semi-structured, and unstructured data to produce actionable insights.
• Create reports and dashboards and integrate analytical solutions with databases, programs, systems, and operational workflows.
• Collaborate with stakeholders, data engineers, and analysts, and communicate results to technical and non-technical audiences.
• Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior data scientists and analysts.

Requirements

• Active SECRET Security Clearance with eligibility for TS/SCI.
• Bachelor’s degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, Statistics, or a related field with 8–10 years of experience; or Master’s degree with 6–8 years of experience; or PhD with 3–5 years of experience. No substitutions.
• Strong experience designing and implementing machine learning models and statistical techniques.
• Expertise in Python, R, or equivalent programming languages for data analysis and modeling.
• Proficiency in SQL and relational and non-relational databases.
• Experience with distributed computing frameworks such as Spark or Databricks.
• Familiarity with AWS, including SageMaker, Redshift, and Glue, or Azure equivalents.
• Strong knowledge of data visualization tools such as Tableau or Power BI.
• Experience with Git and version control practices.

Nice to have

• Experience supporting Department of War enterprise data platforms.
• Familiarity with RMF, NIST 800-53, and DoD IL-level cloud environments.
• Experience with natural language processing and computer vision.
• Knowledge of metadata management, data cataloging, and governance tools.
• Experience in Agile or DevSecOps environments within government programs.
