Senior Principal Software Engineer (Foundational Platform)

Location: San Jose, San Francisco, or Santa Clara, California, United States. Most teams work from the office full time.

Salary: $183,600–$297,000 annual base salary. Compensation may also include restricted stock units and a bonus.

What you will do

• Lead the architecture and evolution of high-scale platform services covering IAM/RBAC, fine-grained authorization, licensing and entitlement lifecycle, device management, and workflow orchestration.
• Design and build resilient distributed microservices using Go, Node.js, Python, Google Cloud, and Temporal.
• Apply zero-trust security patterns, including mTLS service authentication, OAuth2.0/OIDC, and fine-grained authorization.
• Partner with Product Management, SRE, QA, and customer-facing teams to deliver end-to-end cloud solutions.
• Develop shared Go, Node.js, and Python frameworks, client SDKs, event-driven patterns, and micro-frontend platform tooling.
• Drive reliability, scalability, latency optimization, incident analysis, and mentoring and recruiting across engineering teams.

Requirements

• 15+ years of experience building large-scale enterprise SaaS applications, including 5+ years in lead technical architecture or Staff/Principal engineering roles for cloud-native platforms.
• Deep hands-on experience building high-concurrency microservices with Go, Node.js, and Python.
• Expertise with high-availability relational and transactional data stores, including Cloud Spanner, Cloud SQL, and AlloyDB, plus NoSQL engines such as Firestore, MongoDB, and Redis.
• Strong background in event-driven architecture, GCP Pub/Sub, and Temporal stateful workflow orchestration.
• Strong foundation in OIDC, SAML, OAuth2, OPA/OPAL, Permify, RBAC/ABAC, Istio mTLS, and client-certificate authentication.
• Hands-on experience with GCP or AWS, Kubernetes/GKE, Helm, Terraform, and modern GitOps CI/CD pipelines.
• Proven ability to influence cross-functional engineering teams, drive technical consensus, and deliver complex multi-year initiatives.

Nice to have

• Exposure to React micro-frontend architectures using Webpack Module Federation.
• Experience with API Gateway pattern design or multi-tenant SaaS licensing systems.
