TL;DR
Head of Tax Information Reporting (Crypto): Building and running a global tax information reporting function covering CARF, DAC8, CRS 2.0, FATCA, and Form 1099-DA with an accent on transaction data reconciliation, reporting policy, vendor management, and filing quality. Focus on designing data specifications and QA controls, interpreting complex crypto tax regimes, and coordinating reporting across entities, jurisdictions, and regulatory deadlines.

Location: Remote in EMEA, with a strong preference for the US or EU; occasional travel to OKX offices.

Company

OKX operates a global crypto exchange and develops the OKX Wallet, providing access to crypto trading and decentralized applications.

What you will do

  • Own the end-to-end CARF, DAC8, CRS 2.0, FATCA, and Form 1099-DA reporting cycle across all entities in scope, including population definition, self-certification, data extraction, reconciliation, file production, QA, filing, corrections, and tax authority queries.
  • Define reporting data specifications covering users, transactions, balances, aggregation by user and jurisdiction, and reconciliation to the ledger; collaborate with Product and Data Engineering to build and test the pipeline.
  • Build the QA framework, including source reconciliation, OECD XML schema validation, self-certification checks, and cross-entity consistency testing.
  • Manage the tax platform vendor, including scope, delivery calendars, testing, output validation, issue resolution, and renewals.
  • Set group reporting policy, interpret crypto tax regimes, design self-certification and undocumented-account restriction processes, and maintain entity readiness tracking.
  • Build and lead a small senior team, coordinate local compliance and entity leads, report to senior governance forums, and support monitoring, audit, and tax authority examinations.

Requirements

  • 7+ years of experience in tax information reporting, tax operations, or regulatory data reporting at a global exchange, broker, bank, fintech, or digital asset platform, including at least 3 years leading a team.
  • Hands-on experience in a global, distributed digital asset business, including exchange or wallet transaction data, multiple legal entities, and users across many jurisdictions.
  • Ability to write SQL, define data specifications for engineers, reconcile large transaction datasets to a ledger, identify data gaps, and build or run data-quality controls.
  • Working knowledge of CARF, DAC8, CRS, and FATCA, including due diligence, self-certification, reportable transaction categories, and XML schemas.
  • Experience building a function from a small base, including policy, controls, hiring, and running the first reporting cycle.
  • Ability to explain data and tax issues to executives, engineers, and local compliance officers and to run a steering committee.
  • Judgment on escalation, comfort working across US, EU, and Asia time zones, and a record of meeting hard filing deadlines.

Nice to have

  • Direct CARF or DAC8 implementation experience.
  • Experience managing a tax reporting vendor or platform, including scoping, testing, and delivery management.
  • Experience with US Form 1099-DA or 1099-B production, backup withholding, or Qualified Intermediary reporting.
  • Experience with the DAC8 60-day account restriction process or equivalent undocumented-account remediation at scale.
  • Familiarity with GDPR requirements for sharing customer data with tax authorities, including data protection impact assessments.
  • Python or similar scripting experience for data validation and experience with data warehouse tools such as Databricks.
  • Experience working within a Three Lines Model, including second-line monitoring and Internal Audit support.
  • A CPA, chartered tax adviser, or equivalent; or a degree in data science, computer science, or accounting.

Culture & Benefits

  • Values-driven, friendly, rewarding, and diverse working environment.
  • Competitive total compensation package.
  • Learning and development programs and an education subsidy.
  • Team-building programs and company events.
  • Comprehensive healthcare schemes for employees and dependants.
