Principal Architect - Digital Platforms (AWS)

Location: Henley-on-Thames, Oxfordshire, United Kingdom. Hybrid workplace model requiring at least four full days each week in the advertised office.

What you will do

• Define the cloud architecture strategy for Digital Platforms across web, client servicing, and internal tools.
• Lead the architecture and delivery of complex AWS solutions covering applications, integrations, and infrastructure.
• Design end-to-end architectures integrating AEM, edge/CDN platforms such as Fastly, APIs, and backend cloud services.
• Establish cloud standards, reference architectures, reusable patterns, and non-functional requirements for security, performance, scalability, resilience, and cost optimisation.
• Partner with Cloud and DevSecOps teams on AWS capabilities, pipelines, security controls, and operating models.
• Provide architectural oversight, translate business requirements into technical solutions, and mentor architects and senior engineers.

Requirements

• Extensive technology experience with a strong focus on cloud architecture and engineering.
• Proven experience designing and delivering enterprise-scale cloud solutions in AWS, including compute, networking, storage, IAM, and cloud-native architectures.
• Experience across digital platforms, web ecosystems, application integration landscapes, and centralised cloud platform and DevSecOps operating models.
• Principal-level individual contributor experience, including influencing across teams without direct authority and driving alignment across distributed teams.
• Knowledge of modern architecture patterns including microservices, API-first, event-driven, and distributed systems.
• Knowledge of web platform architectures, including AEM and edge delivery through CDNs such as Fastly.
• Understanding of DevOps practices including CI/CD, infrastructure as code, automation, security, compliance, and data protection in cloud environments.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or a related discipline, or equivalent experience.
• Problem-solving skills, independent operation on complex challenges, excellent communication, and the ability to translate technical concepts into business outcomes.
• Recognised technical leadership and trusted-advisor capability, with effective collaboration across product, engineering, and platform teams.

• Relevant cloud certifications, such as AWS Solutions Architect.
