Lead Fleet Performance Engineer (Robotics)

What you will do

• Define and own fleet health metrics, reporting standards, alert thresholds, alert quality, resolution, and escalation.
• Investigate fleet-wide behavior using logs and telemetry, identify regressions and configuration changes, quantify exposure, and assess operational severity.
• Own diagnostic data capture, including rosbag recording rules, log pipelines, telemetry coverage, fleet data quality, and the hardware health foundation.
• Develop pre-failure detection for robot subsystems, manage preventive maintenance intervals, and drive configuration baselines, drift detection, and change visibility.
• Work with V&V on release-candidate analysis, provide evidence for release decisions, and maintain the top-failure-modes register.
• Report fleet health to Service, Engineering, and Software while hiring, coaching, and growing the reliability team and remaining hands-on with data and robots.

Requirements

• Substantial engineering experience in reliability, SRE, platform operations, robotics operations, or a strongly data-driven engineering role.
• Fluency with telemetry and observability, including Grafana or similar tools, time-series data, SQL, and Python.
• Strong analytical judgment to separate signal from noise and distinguish unusual robot behavior from actual failure.
• Systems depth in Linux, logs, and distributed systems; ROS or another robotics stack is ideally included.
• Ability to argue from evidence and hold a position with engineering and hardware teams.
• Discipline to protect proactive reliability work from reactive requests.
• Genuine interest in growing into a leadership role as a hands-on engineer who builds and leads a team.
