Staff Machine Learning Engineer (AI)

Location: Remote from multiple countries; eligible countries include Canada, Ireland, the United States, and 13 other countries. Availability is required during coordination hours, Monday-Friday, 9am-3pm Pacific Time.

Salary: US-based applicants: $219,989-$320,613 USD plus equity and benefits. Toronto and Vancouver applicants: $282,469-$329,337 CAD plus equity and benefits. Other Canada locations: $263,638-$307,381 CAD plus equity and benefits.

What you will do

• Set the technical direction for hirify.global’s home feed recommendation systems.
• Lead projects across candidate generation, retrieval, ranking, re-ranking, and multi-objective optimization.
• Improve user engagement and content quality through online experiments.
• Own ML systems end to end, including data pipelines, candidate extraction, feature engineering, model training, and production integration.
• Identify new machine learning applications across the hirify.global product and partner with product, data science, and infrastructure teams.
• Mentor engineers, improve code and modeling quality, and help advance AI-assisted development practices.

Requirements

• 6+ years of professional software development experience in machine learning.
• 4+ years of professional experience building and optimizing home feed recommendation systems for social media and user-generated content platforms.
• Deep knowledge of candidate generation, retrieval, ranking, re-ranking, embeddings, and multi-objective optimization.
• Deep understanding of the mathematical foundations of machine learning algorithms.
• Experience leading large-scale ML projects end to end with measurable outcomes.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• BS, MS, or PhD in Computer Science.
• 6+ years of experience writing Python or C++ code.
• Availability for meetings and impromptu communication during hirify.global’s coordination hours.

• Hands-on experience deploying and running generative models at scale.
• Background in notifications, email or digest recommendations, or growth and lifecycle modeling.
• Flexible and positive team-player approach.
• Publications at venues such as RecSys, KDD, NeurIPS, or ICML.
