Network and Security Engineering Intern - 2027, Ashburn, VA (AI)

Location: US - Ashburn, VA; hybrid schedule with at least 3 days in the office; 5–10% travel required. Work hours vary according to department needs.

Salary: $41–$48 per hour USD for U.S. applicants.

What you will do

• Develop Python automation scripts for network validation, configuration checks, log collection, and reporting.
• Automate device health checks, configuration backups, interface validation, and protocol verification.
• Support testing and certification of routers, switches, firewalls, SD-WAN technologies, and cloud networking services.
• Use Generative AI tools to create test cases, assist with coding, summarize logs, and support troubleshooting.
• Collect and analyze network telemetry, packet captures, logs, and test results to identify issues and validate functionality.
• Set up network labs, onboard devices, maintain test documentation and runbooks, and troubleshoot failed test cases.

Requirements

• Pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Technology, Cybersecurity, Network Engineering, MIS/CIS, or a related field.
• Graduating between December 2027 and August 2028.
• Ability to communicate clearly and professionally in verbal and written communication.

Nice to have

• Foundational understanding of TCP/IP, the OSI Model, IPv4 addressing, DNS, DHCP, routing, switching, VLANs, OSPF, and BGP.
• Experience with Python and basic programming concepts, including variables, functions, loops, file handling, JSON, YAML, and CSV.
• Exposure to Ansible, Netmiko, REST APIs, Git, and Linux command-line environments.
• Familiarity with Wireshark, ping, traceroute, nslookup, and tcpdump.
• Interest in Generative AI applications for coding, log analysis, troubleshooting, and documentation generation.
• Exposure to network modeling, simulation, or lab environments such as EVE-NG or Cisco CML.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, documentation, and attention-to-detail skills.
• Ability to learn quickly and work effectively in a collaborative team environment; self-motivated, curious, and eager to develop networking, automation, and cybersecurity expertise.
