Senior Data Engineer (Fintech)

Location: Sydney, New South Wales, Australia; hybrid workplace.

What you will do

• Design and evolve highly scalable, fault-tolerant ETL/ELT pipelines.
• Develop real-time messaging and stream-processing solutions with Kafka and RabbitMQ to support sub-second data availability.
• Serve as the subject matter expert for ClickHouse, optimizing schema designs, indexing strategies, and query performance for large-scale financial datasets.
• Deploy data services in cloud environments with advanced security protocols and finance-focused data governance.
• Collaborate with senior leadership on data strategy and mentor data engineers through code reviews and technical guidance.
• Implement monitoring and automated recovery systems to protect the integrity and quality of financial data.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
• Proven data engineering experience, including designing and implementing ETL processes in cloud environments.
• Experience in the Finance or Trading technology sector handling real-time market or transactional data.
• Strong Python skills for developing robust, maintainable, and scalable data-processing pipelines.
• Extensive SQL knowledge and experience.
• Excellent problem-solving and teamwork skills.
• Strong communication skills, including the ability to explain complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
