Accounting Policy Controller Associate

Location: Birmingham, Alabama, United States; onsite position with full office days three or more days per week and a schedule set by the manager. Applicants must already be authorized to work full-time in the United States. No relocation assistance or visa sponsorship is provided.

Salary: $62,542.15 minimum to $86,430.00 median USD annually.

What you will do

• Prepare detailed financial reports and presentations for management review, including monthly, quarterly, ad-hoc, and special-project reporting.
• Perform technical accounting research and analysis, including GAAP research, and respond to accounting inquiries from business partners.
• Help implement accounting guidance in business processes and recommend process improvements.
• Analyze and resolve problems using applicable policies and prescribed guidelines.
• Create and maintain databases, documentation, and data in meaningful formats.
• Support Business Unit Controllers for Risk and Corporate Governance and the Consumer Bank, working independently with minimal guidance and serving as a resource for less experienced associates.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a directly related field.
• Three years of experience in public accounting or industry, including reporting, policy, or financial analysis experience.
• Ability to research and analyze data and drive appropriate solutions.
• Ability to work under moderate guidance.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
• Strong verbal, written communication, organizational, critical-thinking, and documentation skills.
• Strong work ethic, self-motivation, and attention to detail.

Nice to have

• Master of Business Administration and/or master's degree in Finance.
• Experience in the financial services industry.
• Certified Public Accountant licensure.
• Experience with revenue recognition accounting, credit accounting, HR accounting, BOLI, stock compensation, pensions, financial trend analysis, SOX, or assurance/audit.
