AI Technology PhD Research Internship

Location: UK-based, working from the Bristol, Cambridge, or London office. Applicants must already have the right to work in the UK for the full duration of the programme and must not require visa sponsorship.

What you will do

• Explore research questions related to next-generation AI compute and real-world hardware and software challenges.
• Develop new ideas and implement machine learning models and algorithms.
• Design experiments, analyse results, and determine which ideas warrant further investigation.
• Work across topics including large-scale LLM pretraining and post-training, efficient inference, numerics, world models, molecule generation for life science applications, and model safety and interpretability.
• Present findings, often through research papers, and contribute to research shared with the wider AI community.
• Participate in technical discussions and collaborate with experienced AI researchers and engineers.

Requirements

• Currently studying for a PhD specialising in AI or machine learning.
• Strong coding ability in Python or C++, demonstrated through projects, research, or other practical experience.
• Experience implementing algorithms in machine learning frameworks such as PyTorch.
• Ability to design experiments, interpret results, and communicate research clearly.
• Curiosity about both theoretical and practical experimentation.
• Existing right to work in the UK for the full duration of the programme without requiring visa sponsorship.
