Biological Scientist (Molecular Biology)

Location: Rockville, MD, United States; supporting the National Institutes of Health and the National Center for Advancing Translational Sciences.

Salary: $80,000–$85,000 USD annual base compensation.

What you will do

• Design, execute, and optimize molecular biology, cell-based, genomic, and functional studies, including CRISPR genome editing, cloning, construct design, gene expression analysis, and functional genomics.
• Perform mammalian cell culture, stem cell differentiation, cell banking, cell line stewardship, cryopreservation, authentication, distribution, and quality control.
• Prepare samples and support PCR, qPCR, next-generation sequencing, transcriptomics, single-cell sequencing, multi-omics, and downstream bioinformatics coordination.
• Develop and validate high-throughput screening and cellular functional assays using bioluminescence, fluorescence, reporter systems, flow cytometry, Seahorse analyzers, and multi-electrode arrays.
• Perform DNA, RNA, and protein isolation; Western blotting; immunocytochemistry; immunofluorescence; tissue processing; microscopy; histological analysis; and quantitative image analysis.
• Maintain laboratory operations, equipment, inventories, records, SOPs, quality systems, and technical documentation; analyze and present data and contribute to reports, manuscripts, publications, presentations, and grant applications.

Requirements

• Education or field of study in Biology or Molecular Biology.
• Skills in cell culture, molecular biology, genome engineering, stem cell biology, genomics and sequencing, protein and cellular assays, high-throughput screening, advanced instrumentation, microscopy, cell banking and quality control, laboratory operations, and scientific analysis and communication.
• Ability to perform molecular cloning, plasmid engineering, CRISPR/Cas-based genome editing, viral vector preparation, gene expression analysis, and functional genomics studies.
• Ability to prepare, process, quantify, characterize, and store DNA, RNA, and protein samples from cellular and tissue specimens.
• Ability to conduct cell line quality control, including mycoplasma testing, karyotyping, STR/DNA fingerprinting, contamination monitoring, and validation of genetically modified cell lines.
• Ability to operate, calibrate, troubleshoot, maintain, and validate laboratory, imaging, sequencing, and analytical equipment, and train personnel in proper operation.
• Ability to maintain electronic laboratory notebooks, experimental protocols, SOPs, regulatory documentation, inventories, and other records in accordance with laboratory quality standards.
• Ability to analyze and interpret experimental data, prepare technical reports and summaries, and collaborate with multidisciplinary research teams.
