TL;DR
Senior Incident Commander (Cloud Ops) (SRE/Python): Leading critical production incident response and building automation and tooling for resilient cloud operations with an accent on incident command, observability, and service reliability. Focus on coordinating cross-functional mitigation, reducing MTTx, improving incident and change management, and developing Python-based operational tools.

Location: Redwood City, California, United States; hybrid work with attendance at the assigned office at least 3 days per week.

Base salary: $187,000–$233,500 USD annually, plus eligibility for equity and benefits.

Company

hirify.global provides an intelligent content management platform for collaboration, content lifecycle management, security, business workflows, and enterprise AI.

What you will do

  • Own and direct Critical, Blocker, and other high-severity live-site incidents from identification and escalation through mitigation and recovery.
  • Lead incident bridges, validate customer impact, coordinate subject-matter experts and cross-functional resources, and drive rapid service restoration.
  • Improve incident platform tooling by developing Python automation, optimizing templates, and reducing operational overhead and time to mitigate.
  • Partner with SRE and engineering teams on dependencies, Tier 1 customer journeys, failure modes, secure workflows, operability, observability, and resiliency.
  • Lead daily change reviews, reliability projects, readiness reviews, and problem-management activities; turn incident learnings into engineering actions such as SLOs, signal-quality improvements, rollback readiness, and dependency documentation.
  • Mentor the team through training, tabletop exercises, runbook improvements, and knowledge-sharing.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience in SRE, production operations, reliability engineering, or equivalent high-scale internet/SaaS operations, with repeated experience leading or co-leading major production incidents.
  • Incident Commander, Technical Duty Officer, or equivalent experience, including calm decision-making under uncertainty, clear communication, delegation, and escalation judgment.
  • Strong SRE fundamentals: practical use of SLIs, SLOs, and error budgets; metrics, logs, traces, golden signals, blameless postmortems, toil reduction, and “you build it, you run it” collaboration.
  • Proficiency in Python for automation and tooling, including readable code, APIs, packaging or service-style tools, and reviewing other automation.
  • Solid Linux/Unix troubleshooting skills and comfort with multi-tier distributed systems across application, data, network, and cloud layers.
  • Networking knowledge for production incidents, including DNS, TLS, load balancing, HTTP, and basic routing and firewall concepts.
  • Experience with cloud environments; GCP is preferred, while AWS and Azure are also valued. Experience with Kubernetes or equivalent container and orchestration concepts is required.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, including executive-ready impact statements, precise Slack and incident-bridge facilitation, and reliable documentation.
  • Proven ability to coach and uplift others through training, mentoring, runbook quality, and drills.

Nice to have

  • Experience in or close partnership with a 24x7 NOC, GTOC, or follow-the-sun operations center.
  • Hands-on experience with Prometheus-compatible observability tools such as Chronosphere or Grafana, distributed tracing such as SignalFx, synthetic monitoring such as Catchpoint, and PagerDuty or similar tools.
  • Experience improving incident tooling, including ChatOps, workflow automation, status and communications templates, and drill frameworks.
  • Familiarity with emergency changes, break-glass procedures, and CAB or asynchronous approval patterns.
  • Experience with Go, shell, Terraform, or CI/CD for operations automation.
  • Experience mapping dependency graphs, service catalogs, or Tier 1 journey documentation.

Culture & Benefits

  • Work in an AI-first environment with a growth mindset and opportunities to use AI to improve decision-making and operational impact.
  • Community and in-person collaboration are core parts of the culture.
  • Hybrid work requires attendance at the assigned office a minimum of 3 days per week.
  • Role is eligible for equity and benefits.
  • hirify.global supports diversity, inclusion, and reasonable accommodations throughout the application and interview process.

Hiring process

  • The recruiter will provide further details about the working model and company culture during the hiring process.
  • Reasonable accommodations are available for the application and interview process.
