Senior Counsel (Insurance)

Location: Hybrid in New York, Madison, or Chicago, United States

Salary: $160,000–$300,000 per year

What you will do

• Advise senior leaders on complex legal, regulatory, compliance, and enterprise risk matters while balancing legal risk with business objectives.
• Partner with Privacy, Data & Cyber, Human Resources, Employee Benefits, Finance, Treasury, Procurement, and business operations on strategic initiatives.
• Advise on investment activities, capital management, financing arrangements, employee benefit plans, ERISA compliance, executive compensation, and service-provider arrangements.
• Draft, negotiate, and advise on commercial agreements, strategic transactions, and business initiatives.
• Lead or support acquisitions, divestitures, reorganizations, investments, financing activities, and other enterprise projects.
• Mentor junior attorneys and legal professionals and improve legal service delivery through technology, innovation, and process improvement.

Requirements

• J.D. and an active license to practice law.
• 7+ years of relevant legal experience in a law firm, corporate legal department, or combination of both.
• Ability to independently manage complex legal matters and advise sophisticated business stakeholders.
• Experience drafting, negotiating, and advising on commercial agreements, transactions, and legal risk issues.

Nice to have

• In-house counsel experience.
• Experience supporting finance, treasury, procurement, human resources, employee benefits, privacy, or compliance functions.
• Experience in insurance, financial services, or another regulated industry.
• Experience advising senior executives and leading cross-functional initiatives.
• Experience with investment, treasury, corporate finance, employee benefits, executive compensation, ERISA, mergers and acquisitions, divestitures, commercial contracting, vendor management, privacy, cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, emerging technologies, enterprise risk management, or compliance programs.
