Senior Principal R&D Engineer (Cardiac Devices)

Location: Onsite in Mounds View, Minnesota, United States; in-person work four days per week. U.S. work authorization sponsorship is offered for Principal-level roles and above.

Salary: $160,800–$241,200 USD annually; eligible for the hirify.global Incentive Plan.

What you will do

• Contribute to design solutions for leads, catheters, and cardiac devices used in pacing and defibrillation therapies.
• Develop test methods, measurement techniques, and fixtures for mechanical testing and analysis.
• Analyze test results using Minitab, JMP, or MATLAB, applying statistical methods such as distribution and regression fitting with confidence intervals.
• Identify failure root causes and propose design or process improvements that enhance performance and reliability.
• Prepare and present technical information to management, marketing, clinicians, and regulators.
• Direct junior employees and technicians, manage deliverables, and provide updates across geographically diverse cross-functional teams.

Requirements

• Baccalaureate degree and at least 10 years of relevant experience, or a master's degree and at least 8 years of relevant experience, or a PhD and at least 6 years of relevant experience.
• For bachelor's degrees earned outside the United States, the degree must satisfy the requirements of 8 C.F.R. § 214.2(h)(4)(iii)(A).
• Ability to apply statistical techniques to interpret test results for design, reliability, and manufacturing partners.
• Ability to identify failure root causes, develop creative plans, manage deliverables, and meet aggressive business milestones.
• Ability to communicate technical information clearly to management, marketing, clinicians, regulators, and cross-functional partners.
• Ability to perform the physical requirements of the role, including independent mobility, computer use, and communication with peers and coworkers.

Nice to have

• Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, or Materials Science.
• Knowledge of cardiac lead, catheter, and device design, processing, material-property testing, and fatigue.
• Hands-on experience with TA Instruments or Instron electromechanical fatigue test frames.
• Proficiency with CAD software such as Creo or SolidWorks.
• Familiarity with FEA software and design optimization techniques.
• Knowledge of FDA and MDR regulations.
