Platform Engineer (Kubernetes)

Location: Hybrid, Utrecht, Netherlands; includes 60 days per year working abroad and travel reimbursement to the Utrecht headquarters.

What you will do

• Operate and improve EKS clusters and the GitOps platform, including upgrades, security, autoscaling, and core platform components.
• Improve Kubernetes deployment workflows, CI/CD pipelines, and self-service templates for developers.
• Migrate the core Laravel application from EC2 to Kubernetes while maintaining the existing EC2 fleet.
• Manage multi-account AWS infrastructure with Terraform and improve observability, alerting, security, and platform costs.
• Mentor engineers, pair on platform changes, write documentation, and help define engineering standards.

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience in cloud infrastructure, platform engineering, or DevOps, with deep AWS experience including EKS, EC2, IAM, and VPC networking.
• Production experience running Kubernetes and Docker-based workloads, including cluster upgrades, autoscaling, and troubleshooting.
• Hands-on experience with GitOps and CI/CD deployments to Kubernetes, including FluxCD and GitHub Actions.
• Strong Terraform and Linux skills, with a solid understanding of observability, secrets management, and least-privilege access.
• Excellent communication skills and experience mentoring engineers and supporting teams through changes in tools or ways of working.

Nice to have

• Experience with FluxCD, Envoy Gateway, Karpenter, kro, KCL, or Kubernetes operators.
• Experience migrating a monolith from virtual machines to Kubernetes.
• Production experience with managed databases and search, including MySQL or PlanetScale, PostgreSQL, MongoDB Atlas, or Elasticsearch.
• Experience with multi-account AWS, Kafka, Cloudflare, or AI/LLM workloads in production.
• Background in security, compliance such as GDPR, or incident response.
