Program Admin Officer 3 (Translator)

Location: Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada; permanent office-based position with occasional evening and weekend work during emergency situations.

Salary: CAD $2,805.63–$3,410.48 bi-weekly.

The Office of Acadian Affairs and Francophonie supports the hirify.global and public institutions in delivering services in French, implementing French-language legislation, and supporting the Acadian and francophone community.

What you will do

• Deliver specialized, timely, and accurate English-to-French translations and revisions of complex and sensitive government documents, correspondence, and resources.
• Consult with, advise, and support clients on French-language communication and translation best practices.
• Conduct research and analysis, interpret technical or specialized information, and develop recommendations for client translation and communication needs.
• Contribute to initiatives improving the quality, consistency, and accessibility of French-language services and government communications.
• Help develop and implement translation policies, programs, service standards, and quality controls.
• Support French translation and communications during emergency situations outside regular business hours, including evenings and weekends.

Requirements

• University degree in translation or a related field and at least five years of professional translation experience; an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may be considered.
• Advanced bilingual English and French proficiency in reading, writing, and verbal communication.
• Certification with a Canadian professional translation association, progress toward certification, or eligibility to obtain certification.
• Specialization in and demonstrated experience with English-to-French translation.
• Strong attention to detail, initiative, sound judgment, curiosity, and the ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively with colleagues and clients.

Nice to have

• Experience interpreting legal and regulatory requirements related to government service development and delivery, and advising on minority-language communications.
• Experience leading or contributing to translation-related policies, procedures, service standards, and quality controls.
• Experience advising on engagement and communication with minority-language communities, including Acadian and francophone communities.
• Understanding of the realities and dynamics of the Acadian and francophone community in Nova Scotia.
