TL;DR
Senior Equipment Engineer - Electrical (Additive Manufacturing): Stabilizing and scaling electrical systems for production Laser Powder Bed Fusion equipment across high-volume manufacturing factories with an accent on equipment reliability, electrical troubleshooting, and fleet-level standards. Focus on solving recurring and ambiguous equipment problems, connecting machine and printed-part data, and driving root-cause corrective actions across engineering, operations, quality, maintenance, and service teams.
Location: Long Beach or Torrance, California, United States. The role requires lawful access to information and technology subject to US export controls and eligibility to work in the United States.
Salary: $111,300–$176,720 USD annually, depending on level.
Company
Divergent develops integrated engineering and manufacturing solutions for global automotive, aerospace, and defense customers, with a focus on advanced additive manufacturing.
What you will do
Support Service and Operations by improving and creating work instructions, providing technical support for novel issues, and improving preventive maintenance.
Own the sustaining performance and reliability of assigned Laser Powder Bed Fusion production equipment after qualification.
Troubleshoot electrical systems including power distribution, high-power subsystems, control circuits, sensors, instrumentation, wiring, harnesses, drives, motors, and safety interlocks.
Analyze machine process data and downstream printed-part data to identify causes of equipment and production problems.
Lead root-cause and corrective-action investigations from containment through long-term resolution, and drive equipment cost reduction.
Support change and configuration management, standardize lessons learned across the equipment fleet, collaborate with Development Engineering, and mentor technicians and operators.
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related discipline.
6+ years of experience in manufacturing engineering, equipment engineering, reliability engineering, or advanced production environments.
Experience owning the sustaining performance of production equipment and supporting equipment through launch or ramp.
Strong electrical troubleshooting skills on production equipment, including power, control circuits, sensors, and instrumentation, with the ability to read schematics and one-line diagrams.
Working knowledge of mechanical systems sufficient to troubleshoot alongside mechanical engineers.
Experience leading structured root-cause investigations using methods such as RCCA, 5 Whys, Fishbone, or Fault Tree, and verifying corrective actions.
Strong analytical and data-driven decision-making skills, including finding problems in large datasets rather than only responding to reported failures.
Ability to influence engineering, operations, quality, maintenance, and service teams without direct authority and communicate with people at different technical levels.
Experience mentoring or training engineers or technicians.
Nice to have
Experience with Laser Powder Bed Fusion or other metal additive manufacturing technologies.
Experience with laser and high-power systems, heaters, motion drives, sensors, data acquisition, or safety interlocks.
Experience with electrical safety practices such as NFPA 70E and LOTO.
Experience with fleet-level reliability, trending, or performance programs such as OEE, MTBF/MTTR, or failure-mode tracking.
Experience writing or standardizing work instructions for Service or Operations teams.
Experience with configuration management or engineering change processes.
Experience with machine sensor data or manufacturing analytics using SQL, Python, or similar tools.
Experience with controls systems, PLCs, industrial automation, or machine integration.
Experience supporting capital equipment installation, commissioning, or factory expansion.
Knowledge of AS9100, AMS, PPAP, APQP, or equivalent quality systems.
Culture & Benefits
Collaborative, dynamic, high-performing environment in a fast-paced, mission-driven manufacturing company.
Paid vacation, sick time, company holidays, and a year-end shutdown.
Paid parental leave.
