Legal Counsel, Litigation & Legal Process (Crypto)

Location: Hybrid in New York, United States, or the San Francisco Bay Area/San Jose, California, United States.

Salary: $143,111–$214,666 per year, plus potential performance bonus, long-term incentives, and benefits.

OKX is a crypto exchange and developer of a crypto wallet that provides access to crypto trading and decentralized applications for individuals and institutions.

What you will do

• Review and respond to subpoenas, Section 1782 applications, garnishments, temporary restraining orders, preliminary injunctions, receivership orders, and other third-party legal process.
• Negotiate the scope of requests, interface with opposing counsel, object or move to quash where appropriate, and manage productions through closure.
• Coordinate competing or conflicting orders across jurisdictions with the international legal process and global litigation teams.
• Respond to US law enforcement and government requests, including grand jury subpoenas, court orders, and asset freeze or seizure requests.
• Assess litigation demands and threatened claims, support matters progressing into litigation, and work with senior team members and external counsel.
• Partner with Compliance, Risk, Operations, and data teams; develop templates and playbooks, embed AI for efficiency, and recommend process improvements.

Requirements

• JD and admission in good standing in at least one US state.
• At least 4 years of litigation experience at a leading law firm, financial institution, fintech, or government agency.
• Working knowledge of federal and state civil procedure, including subpoena and motion practice.
• Sound judgment and the ability to manage a high volume of time-sensitive matters.
• Excellent written and spoken communication skills.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced, evolving environment across global time zones.
• Enthusiasm for building an in-house career in a fast-growing, regulated industry.

Nice to have

• Experience in traditional finance, fintech, payments, crypto, or digital assets.
• Experience with legal process or law enforcement response at a financial institution or technology company.
• Familiarity with the Stored Communications Act, Bank Secrecy Act, or financial privacy laws.
• Experience with emergency relief, asset freezes, receiverships, or judgment enforcement.
• Prior in-house experience or secondment.
