Intern ML Developer (AI/ML)

Location: Hybrid in Ottawa, Canada; required to work from the Ottawa office at least three days per week.

Salary: CAD 27.04–39.66 per hour.

What you will do

• Work with senior engineers to develop, enhance, integrate, and ship software for real-world AI/ML applications.
• Develop and integrate ML software end to end, including development tools, infrastructure, ML pipelines, and models.
• Improve the AI platform's scalability, maintainability, security, quality, and reliability.
• Design troubleshooting, debugging, automation, and release-process improvements that reduce issue-resolution time and cost.
• Understand end-user use cases and system architecture while collaborating with cross-functional stakeholders to shape product capabilities.
• Participate in agile delivery through sprint planning, huddles, paired programming, code reviews, retrospectives, and feature-quality ownership.

Requirements

• Currently pursuing a Master's degree or having completed the third year of a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field; applicants must be enrolled in full-time education or be a recent/upcoming graduate within 12 months of the placement end date.
• Familiarity and experience with Generative AI, LLMs, prompt engineering, and AI coding assistants such as GitHub Copilot, Claude Code, or OpenAI Codex.
• Strong software engineering and programming skills in Python and C#, including experience with Pandas and ML frameworks.
• Experience with Docker and Kubernetes at scale, including Helm, Argo Workflows, and CI/CD.
• Working experience with Azure or GCP cloud environments.
• Proficiency in SQL, including window functions, aggregate functions, and joins.
• Understanding of distributed computing architectures and experience with machine learning solutions and productization.
• Strong customer orientation, ability to understand end-user perspectives, and ability to integrate ML software into production systems.
• Logical and methodical approach to complex technical problems, strong communication skills, teamwork, knowledge sharing, adaptability, and enthusiasm for learning new technologies.
