Research Associate (Cancer Diagnostics)

What you will do

• Provide daily care and health monitoring for laboratory mice and rats in coordination with vivarium staff.
• Perform in vivo procedures under approved IACUC protocols, including tumor cell implantation, oral gavage, IP/IV injections, IVIS imaging, blood draws, tissue fluid sampling, humane endpoints, and tissue harvesting.
• Process tumor, blood, and tissue samples for preclinical cancer diagnostic studies.
• Maintain animal health records, census logs, room documentation, and detailed experimental records.
• Collaborate with lab members and external collaborators to design, conduct, analyze, and troubleshoot in vivo experiments.
• Follow IACUC, AAALAC, USDA, and institutional animal care and use requirements.

Requirements

• B.S. in biomedical sciences or a related field with at least 2 years of experience, or an M.S. with hands-on experience in the required animal research procedures.
• Hands-on experience with mouse handling, tumor implantation, in vivo drug dosing, in vivo imaging, and blood sampling.
• Motivation to develop improved methods for diagnosing and monitoring patients with cancer.
• Excellent analytical, communication, and organizational skills, including the ability to manage multiple tasks concurrently in a highly collaborative team.
• Working knowledge of IACUC protocols and laboratory animal care and use regulations.

Nice to have

• AALAS certification, such as ALAT or LAT.
