TL;DR
Research Associate in Particle Physics on ATLAS (Particle Physics/CERN): Studying the joint polarisation of weak boson pairs produced via vector boson scattering and decaying through the semileptonic channel with an accent on ATLAS data analysis, jet reconstruction, and tagging algorithms. Focus on developing and calibrating new algorithms, performing polarisation measurements, and contributing to detector performance and phenomenology studies for the HL-LHC and FCC.
Location: Manchester, Greater Manchester, United Kingdom; based in Manchester with frequent visits to CERN.
Salary: £38,448–£46,970 per annum, depending on relevant experience.
Company
The hirify.global is a higher-education and research institution hosting the Particle Physics group and Manchester ATLAS group.
What you will do
Study the joint polarisation of weak boson pairs produced through vector boson scattering and decaying via the semileptonic channel.
Develop and calibrate new jet reconstruction and tagging algorithms for polarisation measurements.
Conduct ATLAS physics analysis involving electroweak processes, detector performance, and related particle-physics measurements.
Contribute to ATLAS detector operations and performance activities, including trigger, data acquisition, jet and flavour tagging, and the Phase-II upgrade.
Potentially participate in phenomenology studies relevant to the HL-LHC and FCC.
Work independently and collaboratively, communicate research effectively, and organise work to agreed timescales.
Requirements
PhD or equivalent in particle physics by the time of starting the position.
Experience in one or more of the following areas: particle-physics data analysis, event generator modelling, trigger, detector operations, or combined detector performance.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
Ability to communicate research effectively.
Ability to organise work to agreed timescales.
Culture & Benefits
Three-year appointment funded by the Leverhulme Trust, starting on 1 January 2027 or as soon as possible thereafter.
