Design Engineering Specialist (FEA)

Location: Peoria, Illinois, United States; onsite five days per week. Travel: 25% domestic and international. Domestic relocation assistance is available. Visa sponsorship is not available.

Salary: $128,470–$192,710 per year.

What you will do

• Lead structural analysis and validation of components, systems, and assemblies using finite element analysis and other analytical methods.
• Develop a roadmap for MWL Virtual Product Development capabilities to accelerate design validation, reduce physical testing, and improve product quality and speed to market.
• Build advanced simulation capabilities through technical leadership, coaching, and mentoring of engineers.
• Develop, correlate, and maintain analytical models for static, dynamic, fatigue, vibration, and thermal loading conditions.
• Interpret test data and field performance information, troubleshoot structural concerns, and support root-cause investigations for quality and durability issues.
• Represent MWL interests in EMD and enterprise heavy and light structures communities and influence key initiatives.

Requirements

• Degree in an accredited Engineering, Computer Science, or Materials Science curriculum.
• Knowledge of analytical techniques and tools, with the ability to determine root causes and develop alternative solutions.
• Knowledge of decision-making and critical-thinking processes and tools, with the ability to reach productive decisions based on informed judgment.
• Knowledge of project-management strategies and tactics, including planning, organizing, monitoring, and controlling projects.
• Knowledge of computer-aided design and engineering tools and specialized graphics programs for producing, analyzing, simulating, and testing product design drafts.
• Knowledge of product development life-cycle methodology in manufacturing organizations and the ability to bring new or enhanced products to market.
• Knowledge of troubleshooting approaches and tools for resolving technical problems in a product-development environment.

Nice to have

• Expertise in finite element analysis and structural mechanics, including nonlinear, dynamic, fatigue, buckling, vibration, and thermal-stress analysis.
• Ability to develop load cases, correlate models with test and field data, recognize simulation limitations, and assess technical risk.
• Strong knowledge of metals, weldments, bolted joints, castings, forgings, and manufacturing effects on structural durability and performance.
• Experience investigating failures, determining root causes, and optimizing designs for strength, weight, cost, durability, and manufacturability.
• Ability to lead technical reviews, mentor engineers, improve simulation methods and standards, and use automation or data-analysis tools to strengthen organizational capability.
