Software Engineer (Cybersecurity)

Location: Remote within Europe. Employment options are available in the UK, Spain, Germany, and Estonia; contractor arrangements are available elsewhere.

What you will do

• Design, develop, and optimize high-performance software for web traffic management, security, and automated threat mitigation.
• Build and improve web infrastructure, traffic processing, and bot detection components.
• Investigate scraping, crawlers, credential stuffing, and abusive automation to develop defensive solutions.
• Work with web servers, networking technologies, and open-source infrastructure.
• Explore technologies, experiment with solutions, and use AI-assisted development tools.
• Contribute to architecture, challenge existing approaches, and own solutions through production.

Requirements

• Strong software engineering experience, ideally in web infrastructure, networking, cybersecurity, internet automation, or related technical domains.
• Solid understanding of HTTP, web servers, networking, and web application infrastructure.
• Experience building complex, scalable, or performance-sensitive software systems.
• Ability to work across programming languages and technologies rather than depending on a particular stack.
• Technical curiosity demonstrated through professional work, open-source contributions, personal projects, or independent experimentation.
• Strong problem-solving skills, independent thinking, and willingness to challenge assumptions.
• Ability to use AI development tools effectively while maintaining sound engineering judgment.

Nice to have

• Experience with web servers and reverse proxies, including Nginx and Apache.
• Experience in bot mitigation, web security, fraud prevention, or anti-abuse technologies.
• Experience with web scraping, crawling, browser automation, or automated traffic systems.
• Open-source infrastructure development or contributions to relevant projects.
• Experience with high-performance networking, traffic processing, or distributed systems.
• Experience with C++, Go, PHP, Nginx, Apache, PostgreSQL, ClickHouse, RabbitMQ, Kubernetes, Docker, GitLab CI/CD, or Linux; exact stack experience is not required.
