Staff Fullstack Engineer, Retail (m/f/d)

Location: Remote in Germany with occasional on-site collaboration in Berlin or Cologne

What you will do

• Provide technical direction across two engineering teams within the Retail Transaction domain and shape architecture across frontend, backend, and connected domains.
• Build customer-facing checkout experiences with React and TypeScript while contributing to backend services and APIs.
• Establish foundations for future native iOS and Android checkout experiences.
• Drive architecture, performance, security, testing, observability, and reliability standards through reusable patterns, guidelines, and platform capabilities.
• Align Checkout, Payments, Orders, Shipping, Product, UX, Security, SRE, and engineering stakeholders on complex initiatives and technical priorities.
• Mentor engineers, facilitate architecture discussions, and use metrics, data, and industry trends to guide technical and product decisions.

Requirements

• Deep hands-on frontend engineering expertise with React and TypeScript.
• Professional backend development experience with at least one language or framework, such as Node.js, Java, Python, or similar.
• Staff/Principal-level experience or equivalent technical scope, including complex system design and architectural decisions affecting multiple teams or domains.
• Experience leading through influence, mentoring experienced engineers, facilitating architecture and design discussions, and introducing engineering standards.
• Strong business and product judgement, with the ability to work with Product, UX, Security, SRE, and engineering stakeholders.
• Ability to use metrics and evidence to guide decisions and evaluate technical trade-offs.

Nice to have

• Experience with checkout, payments, orders, e-commerce, or marketplace systems.
• Exposure to native Android/Kotlin or iOS/Swift development.
