Senior Staff Software Engineer - Infrastructure and Security (AWS)

Location: Pewaukee, WI, USA; onsite. Other locations: Toronto, Canada; Santa Monica, CA, USA; Oakland, CA, USA.

Salary: $141,400–$190,900 annually for the Pewaukee, WI location.

What you will do

• Provide architectural leadership for Home Software Platform infrastructure decisions on AWS, including patterns, guardrails, and reference architectures.
• Design scalable, resilient, and cost-efficient infrastructure for APIs, services, data and streaming pipelines, compute, storage, and device-to-cloud flows.
• Shape infrastructure-as-code standards using Terraform, AWS CDK, or equivalent, ensuring environments are reproducible, reviewable, and auditable.
• Lead security architecture covering threat modeling, secrets management, network segmentation, IAM, encryption, key management, and tamper-evident audit logging.
• Partner with SRE and product engineering teams on observability, reliability, SLOs, difficult infrastructure and security problems, design reviews, mentoring, and secure-coding practices.
• Guide multi-year platform strategy, build-versus-buy decisions, third-party integrations, and cloud cost optimization.

Requirements

• Bachelor of Science in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• 10+ years of progressive software engineering experience with substantial focus on cloud infrastructure and platform engineering.
• Deep, hands-on experience architecting production systems on a major public cloud, preferably AWS.
• Several years of hands-on security engineering across secure architecture, identity and access management, and threat modeling for large-scale distributed systems.
• Strong proficiency with infrastructure-as-code, containers and orchestration, CI/CD, and modern observability tooling.

Nice to have

• Deep familiarity with AWS security and networking services, including IAM, KMS, VPC, GuardDuty, Security Hub, CloudTrail, Config, and WAF.
• Experience with Terraform and/or AWS CDK at scale, including module design and policy-as-code guardrails.
• Experience building high-volume distributed cloud platforms and device-to-cloud systems such as OTA updates, edge computing, and telemetry pipelines.
• Experience securing consumer data and connected-device fleets under privacy and compliance frameworks such as SOC 2 or ISO 27001.
• Proficiency with Kubernetes/EKS and event-driven and streaming architectures.
• Practitioner-level experience building or deploying AI/LLM-powered applications and tooling, including hands-on use of Claude through Amazon Bedrock.
• Familiarity with home energy systems, including HEMS, demand response, utility APIs, and grid-services integrations.
• Strong technical communication skills and a track record of raising engineering standards through mentorship, design review, and pragmatic technical leadership.
