Technical Lead, Data & AI Engineering (m/f/d)

Location: Munich, Bavaria, Germany; hybrid work model.

What you will do

• Lead and develop a team of 3–4 specialists across data analytics, data architecture, and engineering.
• Own the technical product backlog, refine user stories with business and domain owners, and drive prioritization and sprint planning.
• Own solution architecture for ML/AI applications and digital products, including design principles, technology choices, and reusable production-ready patterns.
• Design and drive implementation of the business unit’s cloud data lake, including data models, ingestion patterns, storage, and access layers.
• Ensure integration with ERP, MES, historians, LIMS, CRM, and cloud platforms.
• Establish engineering standards covering code and architecture reviews, pull requests, testing, CI/CD, MLOps, model lifecycle management, mentoring, and evaluation of emerging technologies.

Requirements

• Master’s or PhD in Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering, Applied Mathematics, or a related STEM field, plus 8+ years spanning data science/ML and software engineering, including 3+ years in a technical lead or architect role.
• Production-grade AI/ML delivery experience in an industrial or manufacturing context, integrated with operational data platforms or enterprise systems.
• Hands-on experience designing and implementing cloud data platforms or data lakes, ideally AWS; advanced Python, cloud-native architecture, containerization, and MLOps.
• Ability to work directly with data and keep analysts and data scientists focused on business problems.
• Experience leading or developing small technical teams, setting direction, mentoring, and raising engineering standards while remaining hands-on.
• Experience driving agile delivery from the technical side, including backlog ownership, story refinement, sprint discipline, and collaboration with non-technical business counterparts.
• Working fluency in manufacturing IT/OT and business systems, including ERP, CRM, MES, historians, LIMS, and industrial data realities.
