Senior Application Database Engineer - Payments

Location: Hybrid in Biel, Switzerland. Mobile working is available within Switzerland, with 25 days per year of international remote working possible.

What you will do

• Support DevOps teams with database-related requests, document standards, and promote consistent database practices.
• Lead and coordinate database migrations, including the major cloud migration to PostgreSQL, while maintaining Oracle databases.
• Collaborate with System DBAs, infrastructure providers, development teams, and internal and external stakeholders on database-related topics.
• Monitor database performance, implement optimization strategies, and maintain zero-downtime operations, compliance, and vulnerability management.
• Work transversally with systems and operations entities on shared subjects.
• Participate in remunerated year-round on-call duties providing third-level support for database infrastructures and supported applications.

Requirements

• At least 5 years of hands-on experience administering production databases, with strong expertise in PostgreSQL and Oracle.
• Experience optimizing queries, schemas, and database performance, and troubleshooting application database issues involving execution plans, locks, connection pooling, and query patterns.
• Experience managing database incidents and conducting root-cause analysis in highly available production environments, with a focus on minimizing downtime.
• Experience with database monitoring, capacity planning, cloud platforms, and database migrations.
• Ability to coordinate complex changes across environments and support database changes with development teams and other stakeholders.
• Awareness of database security best practices and compliance standards such as PCI-DSS.
• Ability to work independently, maintain clear documentation, follow established processes, and collaborate effectively with technical teams and external partners under pressure.
• Fluent English.
