Staff Test Engineer (Aerospace)

Location: Onsite in Phoenix, AZ, United States; the role involves access to U.S. export-controlled information and requires a U.S. person.

Salary: $145,000–$185,000 annually.

What you will do

• Design and build electrical ground support equipment for spacecraft avionics, including COTS instrument setups, custom test boxes and panels, and cabling or harnesses.
• Develop LabVIEW interfaces and virtual instruments for instrument control and telemetry, plus Python and/or Perl automation scripts integrated with embedded test code.
• Integrate with flight-like units, embedded single-board computers, custom analog/digital I/O, Command & Data Handling systems, and EPS power-switching use cases.
• Author Integration & Test Plans, Environmental Test Plans, Acceptance Test Procedures, schematics, bills of materials, and other configuration-controlled documentation.
• Execute functional and environmental test campaigns, troubleshoot anomalies, determine root causes, and drive corrective actions.
• Collaborate with systems, firmware, manufacturing test, and program management teams while mentoring junior engineers.

Requirements

• 7+ years of aerospace or defense test engineering experience with hands-on ownership of EGSE hardware, software, and documentation.
• Production-grade LabVIEW experience for instrument control and operator interfaces, embedded-systems experience with C, and test automation or data-handling experience with Python and/or Perl.
• Practical experience selecting and integrating COTS instruments such as power supplies, electronic loads, data-acquisition equipment, and oscilloscopes.
• Experience designing custom test fixtures, cable assemblies, or related test hardware.
• Ability to write clear Acceptance Test Procedures and Integration & Test Plans and maintain accurate schematics and parts lists.
• Strong debugging skills across analog and digital interfaces, including the ability to read schematics and interpret telemetry.
• Must be a U.S. person due to export-controlled work.

Nice to have

• Familiarity with VxWorks on embedded single-board computers.
• Experience with cPCI single-board computers and Command & Data Handling architectures.
• Exposure to EPS backplanes, power switching, and solar-array or battery management.
• VHDL or FPGA interface testing experience.
• Cable and harness design experience, including EMI/EMC, shielding, and grounding best practices.
• Experience with Intercept Mozaix or similar schematic, bill-of-materials, and document-control tools.
• Environmental test support experience, including thermal-vacuum, vibration, and EMI/EMC testing.
