Internship IT - Data Engineering

Location: Hilversum, Netherlands; hybrid work with up to 3 work-from-home days per week for 40-hour internships. Available for 5 months starting in February 2027.

What you will do

• Help design, build, and improve automated data pipelines sourcing data from systems, files, and APIs for analysis and reporting.
• Develop data transformations that produce clean, reliable, and reusable datasets.
• Perform data validation, implement data-quality checks, and support pipeline monitoring and alerting.
• Investigate pipeline and data-quality issues, identify root causes, and contribute to sustainable solutions.
• Document datasets, data flows, business definitions, and technical processes while contributing to data governance, lineage, ownership, and classification.
• Analyse data-product usage, performance, and cost; support legacy pipeline and model modernisation; and collaborate with data engineers, analytics engineers, BI specialists, and business stakeholders.

Requirements

• Currently pursuing a degree in Data Engineering, Computer Science, Data Science, Information Management, or a related technical field.
• Foundation in SQL and interest in using it to explore, validate, and transform data.
• Some experience with, or interest in learning, a programming or scripting language such as Python.
• Interest in data pipelines, data modelling, cloud data platforms, automation, or data governance.
• Analytical approach and comfort investigating unexpected data or process behaviour.
• Curiosity about how data supports different parts of an international retail organisation and eagerness to learn modern data engineering practices.
• Ability to work independently and collaborate effectively with technical colleagues and business stakeholders.
• Clear verbal and written English communication.
• Must remain enrolled at a school or university for the full internship duration. One of the following must apply: EU citizenship, a Family/Partner visa, or non-EU student status in the Netherlands with either a mandatory internship curriculum requirement or a university-signed Nuffic Agreement.
