Quality Assurance Engineer (Quality Engineering)

Location: Madrid (Vía de los Poblados), with a hybrid arrangement combining work from the ING office and from home.

What you will do

• Define and maintain quality standards, controls, testing approaches, governance models, and Quality Engineering roadmaps across products, platforms, teams, and delivery organizations.
• Drive consistent testing, test automation, quality controls, and Quality Engineering practices across multiple teams.
• Establish quality metrics and provide organizational visibility into quality performance, risks, and improvement opportunities.
• Collaborate with Engineers, Architects, Product Owners, and Platform teams to embed quality requirements into solution design, delivery processes, and engineering standards.
• Act as a Quality Engineering subject matter expert, mentor engineers, coach teams, and lead cross-functional quality initiatives without direct authority.
• Support incident analysis, defect prevention, release-quality improvements, and continuous improvement initiatives that reduce production risk.

Requirements

• Strong experience in Quality Assurance, Test Engineering, or Quality Engineering within large software delivery organizations.
• Ability to influence technical decisions and drive adoption of quality practices across multiple teams without direct authority.
• Strong understanding of software development lifecycles, Agile delivery, and modern software engineering practices.
• Strong analytical skills, with experience using data, quality KPIs, and engineering metrics to identify systemic issues and improvement opportunities.
• Practical, hands-on approach focused on measurable quality outcomes and organizational impact.
• Demonstrated ability to lead organizational quality initiatives, influence stakeholders at different levels, mentor engineers, and act as a trusted Quality Engineering advisor across teams and domains.
• Proven experience defining and implementing quality standards, governance models, testing strategies, Quality Engineering roadmaps, governance frameworks, quality controls, and organizational quality metrics across multiple teams or domains.
• Proven experience improving release quality, reducing defects, minimizing production incidents, and driving the adoption of test automation, quality controls, and quality metrics at scale, including integration with CI/CD pipelines and software delivery processes.
• Strong knowledge of Contract Testing, the Testing Pyramid, Shift-Left and Shift-Right approaches, and functional and non-functional testing across all levels, including reliability, resilience, security, performance, and observability.
